Alegria Dance was started by Virgilio Pinto, the current director/instructor, to pass on his love for Latin dance to others in a structured yet welcoming and non-pressured environment. He believes that everyone can start to experience the joy of Salsa from day one, just as he did several years ago.
One summer evening, intrigued by the sound of Latin music, Virgilio walked into a social dance where friendly dance hosts introduced him to the language of partner dance. Enamored by the hypnotic rhythms of the different styles (salsa, bachata, cha cha cha, merengue…) and movement of people on the dance floor he quickly discovered the missing piece in his life puzzle – Latin. Now it is Virgilio, the Goan Salsero’s turn, to share the rhythms of Latin music with others through dance, performance and instruction, as well as djing events.
Virgilio can often be seen dancing at Latin dances throughout the region (Rochester,Syracuse, Bimghamton, Ithaca…) and has performed with a variety of dance groups (Ithaca Salseros, La Familia de la Salsa of Syracuse, Palante Ithaca), as well as for Alegria Dance.
Latin dance has become a worldwide phenomenon, and can be found wherever you go, whether it be Juba in South Sudan, Singapore, Goa in India, or in the US. Virgilio has put the “Latin rhythms” into the “dance motion” of many, even those who claim to have “two left feet”. His contagious enthusiasm, patience and encouragement will help you to improve yourself in a friendly non-pressured and welcoming environment. Virgilio is currently offering private individual and group lessons. He also is available to dj Latin dance events. For more information you may contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
